The Yankees home opener was Friday the 13th of April against the Los Angeles Angels. My roommate had the day off, and we ended up going. The only problem: I only own Mets attire. What to do? Why, stop at a store on the way to the subway! We checked in three different shops for Yankees hats before finally being directed to a place that had them. With our heads properly adorned, and after doing our best Angels in the Outfield impressions, we hopped on the D train for the ride up to the Bronx.
Fantastic seats. Delicious stadium food. Three home runs. Saw Brett Gardner play in person for the first time since he played with my favorite Valley League team, the New Market Rebels. The whole thing was simply marvelous, and felt not like spring, but a kickoff for the summer. Oh, and you know the smile cam on the jumbo tron? Where they flash different peoples faces and they're supposed to smile really big? Well, Liz and I were on it. Did we smile like we were supposed to? No. What happened? It took a good 2 or 3 seconds for us to realize it was our faces, and then made the craziest, unplanned, surprised faces. Plastered right there, center field. WHA! is what we both said, I believe.
We root, root, rooted for our hometeam and they won! Good thing, cause if they didn't it'd be a shame. One, two, three...
